Back in 1966, Ford debuted a car that topped its full-sized vehicle lineup, the Galaxie 7-Litre. The car was basically a Galaxie 500 XL but with performance features and stuffed with the new 428cui V8 engine. Offered as its own standalone model in '66, the "7-Litre" name was reduced to just an option package for the 1967 model year. But by 1968, the 7-Litre moniker no longer existed.

I saw a 67 7 Litre fastback at a car show last month and fell in love. I am currently looking at a 1967 Galaxie with a 428 but I'm not sure if it's a 7 Litre 427-8V 7-Litre High Performance V-8, 425 hp @ 6000 rpm, 480 ft-lbs @ 3700 rpm, 11.1:1 compression ratio L 427-4V V-8 Single Overhead Cam (SOHC), 616 hp @ 7000 rpm (high performance) The 7 Litre Galaxie was how Ford first introduced the 428, and I suspect it was a way to make it stand apart from the other 7 Litre–the 427. These cars are out there, unfortunately some of the unique badges and steering wheel (among a few other goodies) for these cars are rare pieces, and to properly restore one requires some $$$ above and beyond the usual.
